Our Weekend Picks: Unruly Sounds, Fall Plants & Public Lands Day!

Friday, September 29
The D&R Greenway Land Trust is holding their Fall Plant Sale this weekend, featuring shrubs, perennials, grasses & sedges that are indigenous to our area. Stop by the Johnson Education Center on Friday or Saturday to scoop up plants, learn from the experts about which plants work best where, and support the organization. Friday hours 3-5pm. www.drgreenway.org

Saturday, September 30
Just because summer’s over doesn’t mean you can’t load up on delicious, locally grown bounty! The West Windsor Community Farmers Market (held in the Princeton Junction train station parking lot) and the Pennington Farmers Market (held at Rosedale Mill on Rt. 31) are still going strong, with local produce, fresh baked treats, live music and more. Both run from 9am-1pm.

Get some fresh fall air, roll up your sleeves, and lend a hand for National Public Lands Day! Visit the D&R Canal State Park Headquarters at the Mapleton Preserve on Mapleton Road. Bring your own tools – loppers, saws, rakes, shovels – and wear sturdy clothes to help tend to trees in the arboretum, clear brush and vines, or collect litter. FREE, 2-4pm. www.fpnl.org

Enjoy a day of the arts in Hopewell with the Annual Hopewell Tour Des Arts. Start at the Hopewell Train Station, then walk your way through town for a self-guided tour of the boro’s art scene that features over a dozen stops. FREE, 10am-5pm www.hopewellarts.com

Love the Beatles? Then you’ll love this presentation from Lambertville’s ACME Screening Room! ‘Deconstructing The Beatles Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band’ is a documentary that gives viewers an inside look at how the landmark album was put together. $8, 7:50. www.acmescreeningroom.org
