Our Weekend Picks: Washington’s Birthday, Art Camp, Hiking and More!

Friday, February 17
Princeton Public Schools are closed on Friday, but the Arts Council is OPEN! They’re offering Mini-Camps: one day art camp sessions for kids ages 5-13. Younger kids will have ‘A Heart for Art,’ and the older kids will create their own pixel-inspired masterpieces. 9-3:30. Register. www.artscouncilofprinceton.org

Get out and stretch your legs with Mercer County Naturalists at Baldpate Mountain over in Titusville. It’s ‘Just a Hike,’ and it’s brought to you by the Mercer County Parks Commission. Wear sturdy shoes, bring a water bottle, and be sure to register in advance by calling 609-888-3218. Free, 12pm.

Saturday, February 18
Hone your photography skills with a session with photographer Dave Burwell at Hopewell Creative Arts Studio. Whether it’s with a nice SLR or your trusty smartphone, Burwell’s workshop will help you step up your game. $30, 1:30pm. www.hopewellcreativearts.com

Shred it! Or, get rid of it! Mercer County Residents can unload all that stuff that’s been taking up space in the office or garage–we’re talking old computer monitors, boxes of documents that need shredding, old keyboards–at an Electronics Recycling & Document Shredding Day in Trenton. Bring your ID. Free, 9am-2pm. http://www.mcianj.org/filestorage/119/304/MCIA_ELECSHRED2017_Web.pdf

Ever wondered about keeping bees? (Take it fro this Scoop editor–it’s awesome!) Or are you a hobbyist backyard birder? Learn all about it with Rutgers Cooperative Extension’s Beekeeping and Birding Workshops this Saturday. Start the day learning all about beekeeping, take a brief walk outside, and return for a session about backyard birding. 10am-2:30pm. Register by calling: 732-398-5262

PS: Don’t forget to make a card to bring for GW! $1, 10am-2pm. www.washingtoncrossingpark.org
